FRANKLIN COUNTY — The High Peaks Alliance, in collaboration with Maine Forest Service District Forester Julie Davenport, is thrilled to announce a series of Tree Identification Walks this summer and fall. These guided walks offer a unique opportunity to explore Maine’s scenic trails while learning about native tree species and sustainable forest management practices. Pete McKinley from the Wilderness Society, also a board member of the High Peaks Alliance, will be joining Julie on all walks, providing additional expertise and insights into forest conservation.

Julie Davenport, a second-generation forester passionate about forest health and education, will lead participants. The walks are designed to connect community members with Maine’s forests and provide practical knowledge about tree identification and land stewardship.

– June 11: Shiloh Pond Community Forest (Kingfield)

– August 13: Saddleback Spur of the Fly Rod Crosby Trail (Dallas Plantation)

– October 8: Perham Stream Birding Trail (East Madrid)

These walks are perfect for nature enthusiasts, landowners, and families looking to deepen their connection to the forest. Participants will gain valuable skills in tree identification, learn about the benefits of active forest management, and discover resources available for landowners through the Maine Forest Service.
