Clean Up
OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Conservation Committee has scheduled its annual clean-up of town roads for Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. The rain date is May 17. We suggest that volunteers wear boots and bug spray as the sides of the roads may still be wet. Trash bags, safety vests, and plastic gloves will be provided by the town. We ask that you bring your own sustainable drinking water containers.
On May 3, we will meet at 8:45 a.m. at the Otisfield Community Hall on Route 121. The members of the Otisfield Social Outreach Committee (Community Lunch Group) will be feeding the volunteers lunch at the Community Hall after the clean-up. Gluten-free and vegetarian options will be available. Hope to see you there!
Dinner
OTISFIELD — A Community Dinner is being hosted by the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church on Saturday, May 10, from 4:30-6 p.m. It will be an Italian-themed dinner and our menu is classic meat lasagna, cheese lasagna, assorted pasta dishes, meatballs & sausages, salad & rolls, with assorted bars for dessert. We are located at 231 Rayville Road in Otisfield (1 mile off Route 121). The dinner is free and open to the public, but donations are graciously accepted. All donations are used to address needs in our community. “We shine when you dine. Come hungry, leave happy!”
Lunch
OTISFIELD — Spring has finally sprung! Gardening and perhaps spring cleaning are a couple of the activities of the season. As you are cleaning, if you find something that is in good shape but you no longer want and it’s smaller than a bread box, consider bringing it to the Community Lunch on May 21 for a swap.
Please, just one item. Included on the lunch menu will be meatball subs, pasta salad, assorted salads, and a variety of cakes for dessert. So bring your appetite, a friend, and perhaps an item to swap on Wednesday, May 21, at the Community Hall at 292 Rt. 121 between 11:30 and 12:30. It is a free lunch, but donations are appreciated, since they keep us self-supporting.
The Otisfield Community Lunch is now in its 15th year of serving lunches on the third Wednesday of the month. It started as a Missional Learning Experience by the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, which, by doing a community needs assessment, identified that people didn’t know each other in our town. A community lunch seemed a doable way to bring people together. The church partnered with others in the community and formed the Social Outreach Committee.
Its main service is the Community Lunch, supported by many volunteers who plan, shop, cook, bake, set up, serve, clean up, and sometimes deliver leftovers to people who can’t make it to the lunch. Other activities spawned by the Social Outreach Committee are a Craft Group that meets on Wednesdays, a Friday Walking Group, and speakers, from time to time. If you have an idea for bringing people together or you would like to learn more about the Craft or Walking Group, please email Elaine at [email protected] or call or text at 207-461-1995.
Sale
SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner is holding its annual spring sale on May 17, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be locally-grown perennials, local crafters and vendors, raffles including a truckload of loam donated by Community Maintenance Services, a bake sale, and Beanhole beans and hot dog lunches. Bagpipes will be played at about 8:30, before the Prayer Circle and the opening of the plant sale. Rain or shine! The church is located at 50 Main St/Rte 219, East Sumner village, 388-2610.
